The Train. What an exciting thing to do in Blue Ridge!! My parents had actually ridden The Blue Ridge Scenic Railway on their vacation a month prior to ours. They knew our kids would love it and treated us to free train tickets. How sweet of them! They were right! We all loved it!
We arrived about 30 minutes before departure time and enjoyed seeing and hearing the train. All the staff is so friendly and genuinely love what they do!
Our seats were perfect for seeing the beautiful farms and mountains in north Georgia. We rode in the open train, which was perfect for letting us hear the train, smell the great outdoors and feel the WONDERFUL weather! It was in the mid 70s that day and was absolutely marvelous for these Floridians!
We stopped at the concession car and bought some popcorn for along the way. My boys loved it!
And my girls, too.
All along the way we saw local people that would stop and wave at the passengers on the passing train. How friendly! It made our trip even more filled with smiles as we waved at everyone we saw!
There were so many gorgeous sites along the way. We rode along the Toccoa River, which is also the river our cabin is on.
The Conductor came along to stamp tickets, tell jokes and chat with everyone. Silas loved all the corny jokes!
The ride was about an hour long to get to McCaysville, Georgia.
Once we got off the train, we were on the border of Georgia and Tennessee.
We enjoyed 2 hours in McCaysville where we ate lunch and looked at Souvenir shops. Then, we climbed aboard for the one hour journey back to Blue Ridge. Oh how much fun we had!! So many great memories!!
That looks like a very fun ride and how nice of your parents to treat you all. The seating on the train is very unique. Your ride reminds me very much of a train ride I took years ago from Cairns, FNQ to Kuranda which is very much for tourists and has lovely open windows to enjoy the scenery.
