It was very unexpected when I became sick in October 2012. We were working hard starting a church on the beautiful island of St. Barthelemy when I started having a pressure in my chest, neck and collarbone. It became hard to breath and the pressure increased when I laid down or bent over. After 19 months of worsening symptoms and searching for answers at many well known medical facilities, I was diagnosed with Lyme Disease. A couple years after much treatment, my symptoms were still there and the doctors were still searching. God led me to the University of Florida, Shands Hospital. I saw many specialists and was referred to a Neurologist. He began testing me for Myasthenia Gravis. After having a positive Single Fiber EMG, I was diagnosed with the neuromuscular disorder, Myasthenia Gravis. (Myasthenia gravis is a chronic autoimmune neuromuscular disease that causes weakness in the skeletal muscles, which are responsible for breathing and moving parts of the body, including the arms and legs. The name myasthenia gravis, which is Latin and Greek in origin, means "grave, or serious, muscle weakness.")
All of my symptoms are starting to line up and make sense with this diagnosis.
Having an undiagnosed health crisis has been difficult, but I am here to tell you that God has been faithful! Even when I don't understand it all, He sure does and guides me day by day. I would love to use this illness that the Lord has allowed to be in my life to be a blessing to others. There is so much information on the internet about Lyme and MG. And it can be very, very confusing. I am in no way an expert. I'm still searching for answers myself! But, I can share with you my story....
