"Medically Supported Remission"
...those were the wonderfully blessed words that I heard from my Neurologist this week. So many have prayed for me and for my family these past 14 years since I first became sick. Thank you!! It is amazing looking back and seeing how God led the whole way and how He holds me in His hands. His wonderful, wise, sustaining hands. So blessed I am!!
So what does "Medically Supported Remission" mean?
-I am not cured. The doctor was careful to tell me that. I will always have MG, but he is hoping that through medications it has caused my symptoms to subside. It's definitely controllable.
-I will begin tapering my medication off to see how I feel. He believes this should take about a year as I see how I feel with each dosage change.
-When I flare (and he said there will still be flares, especially after I have sickness such as a common cold) we can try and hit the flare with a short term solution such as a steroid instead of long term medication.
-There is always a chance I will need to go back on some heavy hitting meds. We watch. We monitor. We try to be careful and willing to call the doctor if needed.
But for the time being we are rejoicing in this news! So very thankful!!
