Mam-maw's Table

 My Mam-maw's Table

by Elisabeth Gimenez

They gathered round the table dear,

A family gathered year after year.

With two leaves and chairs of eight,

Their table saw love and never hate.

This table saw many a vegetable canned,

All put up by my Mam-maw's hand.

Their table held many delicious dishes,

While the family shared their dreams and wishes.

There most likely set homework and bills alike,

Not many tables have seen the like.

As this table brought the family together,

With aunts and uncles, and friends of a feather,

With grandparents, cousins and guests they held dear,

Whether playing a game or shedding a tear.

Though some we have loved have passed from this earth.

We think of that table where love saw no dearth.

The years come and go but memories still flow,

When we gather once more memory's afterglow.

Sharing happy memories we laughed and we cried,

In remembereing Mam-maw's table with pride.

We think of Pap-paw and Mam-maw up there,

And hope that they're smiling upon us here.

Their table we used in thinking with care,

And that we held their sweet memory dear.
