To have wisdom

Each day we face many situations where we must choose what to do.  What to say.  How to respond.  What to think.  What to wear.  What to put our effort into and what to say must be thrown aside.  So many choices each day that we make!  If we truly have a desire to serve the Lord then many times throughout the day we ask God for wisdom.  We ask Him to guide our paths, thoughts and words.  There is nothing too great or too small.  We need His guidance in every situation!

This morning I was reading in Job.  I see that Job saw the importance of asking God to give him wisdom, too.  In Job 28:12-19 he talks about the worth of wisdom.  It is worth more than the riches of this world!  He mentions many precious jewels like the ruby, onyx and sapphire.  He mentions gold and crystal.  None of those things are worth more than wisdom!

So, we ask God for wisdom.  But how do we have wisdom?  He answers that exact question in verse 28.  It's quite simple actually.  He says, "And unto man he said, Behold, the fear of the Lord, that is wisdom"  My husband has often referred to the fear of the Lord as remembering there are police officers in our rear view mirror while we are in traffic.  If we know the police officer is there behind us and watching, we make sure we are buckled properly, going the correct speed limit and using our turn signal.  We sit up a little straighter and do our very best.  That is the fear of the Lord.  It's when we know He's watching and we want to please Him.  We "sit up a little straighter."

I have in the front of my prayer journal "Keep my eyes fixed on you!"  That is wisdom.  When we find ourselves reminded that He is there throughout the day and look unto Him, He will give us the wisdom we so desire.
