Goat Updates

There have been a lot of changes on Storybook farms lately.  Silas and I have had fun planning and researching the future of our little goat business.  We've acquired some new animals and we've had to let some go.  It's not always easy saying goodbye.  But, getting new goats is a blast!

We've decided to try and single in on two breeds.  First off, we realize we really like mini nubians.  We have three already.  But, mating them to our Nigerian Dwarf would make them a mini-mini nubian.  We decided that we needed to get a Mini Nubian buckling.  We wanted one with cool coloring.

So when this guy came up on Craigslist, we were so excited to get him!  We love his cool dapples.

We decided to name him Shamrock. Isn't he so cute?!

With deciding to go the Mini Nubian route, that meant we had to part with Pippi and with her new kid, Thumper.  They are so adorable and we hated to see them go.  But, the lady that bought them was excited to get a milker and a cute pet buckling.

I mentioned that we decided to single in on two breeds. Mini Nubian is one.  The other?  Kikos!  A friend of mine breeds 100% New Zealand Kikos.  They wanted to give us a buckling.  They let us have our choice out of many of their new bucks.  We picked this cutie!!

We decided to name him Watson.  So now our two bucks are Sherlock and Watson.  They have many cute colors and lots of spots.  I love it!

He has blue eyes and lots of colors!

Sherlock and Watson get along really well!  Just a few more months and we will introduce them to our does.

So in keeping and letting go, we decided we would keep Winnie.  She is a Mini Nubian

Then, Polly had her first kid.  She delivered an adorable doe that we named Flower.  She has so many cute spots!  Unfortunately, she will be a doe that we let go.  I think I may have found a good home for her.

Mowgli has been our "herd sire" since the beginning.  But, since we are going the Mini Nubian and Kiko route, he has to go too.  :o(

Then, Kanga had two doelings.  We named them Anastasia and Drisella.  It's amazing how different they look!

In about 5 weeks we will be looking for new homes for these girls as well.

All the while Silas has been diligent caring for our goats.  It has been so much fun!

I love having this special thing I can do with him.  It's a hobby we both enjoy!

Even though Jenna and Trixie aren't Mini Nubian or Kiko, they are the oldest and deserve to stay.  We also have Kanga, Polly and Winnie.  They are our 3 mini nubians.  We are looking to buy a kiko soon.

So lots of changes happening on our little farm.  We are enjoying trying to be good stewards of this property God has given us!

  1. That’s a lot of goat shifting. I lost track of how many you actually have now, but I guess when you start with six human kids, multiple goat kids don’t seem so daunting.
