Hymn for January

Stop and think for a moment.  You have a year ahead of you.  365 days. 8760 Hours.  Time and moments will soon be spent and become a memory.
 How do you want to spend them?
What is your focus going to be on this year?
What is your hope for 2020?

As I thought about which hymn to choose for January, I kept coming back to Be Thou My Vision.  I knew I wanted to start off my year remembering to keep the Lord first in my life, to let Him be my everything.  What better way to get our year started right than to get our focus right! So, I felt this was the perfect choice.
The hymn for the month of January is
Be Thou My Vision.

I've created a playlist that you can find here.  Let me encourage you, listen to this hymn.  Reflect on the words.  Sing it in your heart.  Sing it aloud.  Think about what it is challenging you to do!

The words to this hymn are so convicting and challenging!
Be Thou my Vision, O Lord of my heart;
Naught be all else to me, save that Thou art.
Thou my best Thought, by day or by night,
Waking or sleeping, Thy presence my light.
Be Thou my Wisdom, and Thou my true Word;
I ever with Thee and Thou with me, Lord;
Thou my great Father, I Thy true son;
Thou in me dwelling, and I with Thee one.
Be Thou my battle Shield, Sword for the fight;
Be Thou my Dignity, Thou my Delight;
Thou my soul's Shelter, Thou my high Tow’r:
Raise Thou me heav’nward, O Pow’r of my pow’r.
Riches I heed not, nor man's empty praise,
Thou mine Inheritance, now and always:
Thou and Thou only, first in my heart,
High King of Heaven, my Treasure Thou art.
High King of Heaven, my victory won,
May I reach Heaven's joys, O bright Heav’n's Sun!
Heart of my own heart, whatever befall,
Still be my Vision, O Ruler of all.

I also want to make sure that along with being faithful to reading my Bible, having my prayer time, and focusing on a hymn, is to memorize scripture.  It's vital for us to be actively hiding God's Word in our heart! For the month of January I want to commit to memory Psalm 16:8,9.  I love how these verses go right along with Be  Thou My Vision!

So, are you ready for 2020?  Are you ready for January?  I am so excited about this plan for the year.  My goal is to post every Monday with thoughts and ideas on the hymn chosen.  Prayerfully it will be a time that I draw closer to my Lord.  He is so good to me and I desire to know Him better and better with each day!

  1. That's a very beautiful verse of scripture (Psalm 16:8,9). I was ready for 2019 to be over and looking forward to 2020 and the decade ahead but I haven't yet set my mind on a word, a theme or a verse. Perhaps it will come to me this week :-) God bless you and your year ahead.♥♥♥

  4. This is so encouraging and I am excited to do this with you this year!!!! All the things that you said are my goals as well for this year! I want to truly learn to put God first not just to have the desire to do so and for that to really change me to make me into the woman God wants me to be. Thank you so much for being a light, a motivation and an encouragement!!!
