Harvesting our Christmas Peas

Patrick and I were very excited to see that our peas are ready! We've been blessed to have so many gorgeous plants in our yard that our landlord had planted. We don't exactly have the greenest of thumbs, but our yard seems to be thriving! When our landlord showed us that we have pea plants, I thought I would end up killing them for sure! But, one thing about the plants that are planted here, is that they are very hardy. They make it with the sunshine and water that they get, and I don't have to do a thing! Yay! The peas are actually a type of pigeon pea, but we've heard people refer to them as Christmas peas because that's usually when they are ready.

My sweet farmer-at-heart picked the peas (I started to help, then decided to grab the camera instead! :o), then shelled them (this took a while!) then looked up a recipe for Bahamian pigeon peas and rice. It was very good! And I feel like such an islander!
