A New Tree Skirt

I am so very excited about my new tree skirt! We have always used the Walmart special tree skirt that costs $4.99 and looks like snow. It usually last 2-3 years, or 4 if you stretch it. Well, after buying about 5 of those during our marriage, I decided I wanted a real one! I scoured some blogs and came up with a plan I would like. I had been given some really nice quality sheets with embossed stripes in them. It was perfect for the skirt!I learned how to cut the it into a good circle from Sew Many Ways. Then, I learned how to cut it into an official tree skirt shape from Make it and Love it. Then, I learned how to make bias tape binding from Sewtropolis. I loved this process! I was a little skeptical and thought for sure I would have some bumps and ripples in the binding, but it worked wonderfully and laid down so well! I decided to applique some random sized trees. The part that was the most time consuming was sewing around all those trees!

I'm so excited about how it turned out and I think it will be something we'll use in years to come.

  4. Beautiful, beautiful, beautiful! And such an example to your daughters, who have observed through their Mama that sometimes handmade can be so much better than store-bought! And, now they don't have to fear the unknown of "I don't know if I can do this." Since Mama has shown them it can be done, they'll have so much more confidence! Way to go, friend!
